Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said on Sunday that he is a strong supporter of freedom of expression, of freedom of the press, as a guarantee of any functional democracy, according to AGERPRES.
„I appreciate and understand the work of a journalist, myself flirting with this profession at the beginning of my career. I am a firm supporter of freedom of expression, of freedom of the press, as a guarantee of any functional democracy. But I consider equally important the right of citizens to be correctly inform and reject any form of spreading false news in the name of freedom of expression.The quality of information and the truth must prevail in the media space, in support of the public interest.The right of journalists to report freely is guaranteed in Romania and so I assure you that it will remain Today, on World Press Freedom Day, we sadly evoke situations in different parts of the world where the press continues to be censored, harassed journalists,arrested or even killed and we want such things not to happen anywhere else, „Orban said in a message on World Press Freedom Day sent to AGERPRES by the government.
